Jane Horsewell and Frans Penninx attended the ASIA/ISCoS meeting in Washington DC last week. The primary aim of the trip was to promote support for the creation of a global SCI consumer network among SCI consumers and organisations in America and Canada, and to investigate funding possibilities for this initiative.
Delegates at the conference were invited to attend a meeting in the afternoon of the second day. Despite the “competition” from the scientific programme, the meeting was reasonably well-attended and the discussion was very lively. Those who were unable to attend the meeting itself sought out Jane and Frans to discuss the ideas. Many useful contacts were made with active SCI consumers who are willing to help ESCIF to promote the idea of a global network. (See the presentation)
Jane and Frans were not the only ESCIF members in Washington. Leif Arild Fjellheim and three other board members from the Norwegian organisation LARS attended the conference, and Antti Dahlberg from Finland was also present. Both Leif and Antti took part in the “global network meeting” and expressed their enthusiastic support for the project.
